MATCH REVIEW | REDCAR ATHLETIC NPL EAST

Boro hit for six on Teesside

We travelled up to Teesside to face high flying Redcar Athletic in the NPL East.

The home side got the game going on a typical autumnal day. The first chance of the game fell to Redcar as they put in a great cross from a corner, Oscar Fletcher got on the end of it but couldn't direct his header on goal. Soon after that close call, Curtis Round went down in the box after contact from Arun Jones, despite claims from Redcar no foul was the referee's decision. Fifteen minutes in, AJ Adelekan hit a sweet volley after his own long throw was cleared. His strike was saved well by the Redcar number 1. In the follow up from Josh Mazfari's save, Brody Robertson went down due to a kick although the referee waved away another penalty complaint.

Twenty minutes in, Redcar's number 9 Adam Boyes went through on goal, he unleashed a powerful strike that was blocked incredibly by AJ. In the 27th minute, Boyes had another chance, he headed towards the bottom corner but somehow Seb Auton got down low to deny Redcar from taking the lead. Disaster nearly struck for Borough as Luis Adlard played Boyes in on goal, Seb stayed tall and saved well. In the 42nd minute, the Redcar midfielder broke through, he squared it too Oscar Fletcher who tapped in to give Redcar the lead. Just before half time, Redcar inflicted a damaging blow on Borough as Oscar Fletcher grabbed his second of the half in style to make it 2-0. Going into halftime we found ourselves down by two which didn't really reflect the first half of football but two goals in three minutes meant that we had a massive job on our hands in the second fourty five.

Five minutes into the second half, Round crossed in from a freekick and Oscar Fletcher made it a hattrick as he headed into the bottom corner. Only three minutes later, Fletcher had a fourth as he scored a near replica of his third as he beat Seb Auton to make it 4-0. Paul Walker was shown a yellow card in the 55th minute for a cynical foul on the Redcar forward. Borough made a quadruple change which saw Molyneaux, Rennardson, York and Taylor come on for Robertson, Essel, Adlard and Flett. Rio Molyneaux made an instant impact as he intercepted a poor back pass and rounded the keeper to give us a very slight glimmer of hope. Both sides made changes as Borough brought on Sawyer for Walker and Redcar made a triple substitution. They brought off Round, Burns and Frewster for Johnson, Burgess and Taylor. We nearly had a second as Rennardson beat his man with a great step over, his attempt was well saved by the Redcar shotstopper.

Our slight glimmer of hope was blown out as Johnson found the bottom left corner after a mistake from Tom Sawyer. Three minutes after Johnson's first, he bagged another finding the corner well to beat Auton.

After a disappointing display, Redcar came out clear winners.

Thanks to everybody who made the journey and we hope to see you at Hallam on Tuesday. #oneboro
