INTRODUCING MASON COUCH
After scooping the Man of the Match award at Ashington on Saturday, its time to meet our new starlet
In the post match interview with Tom Claisse, the gaffer used the old adage - “if your good enough, you're old enough”.
These words were uttered when speaking about our promising youngster, Mason Couch. Mason joined the club at the start of the season after being released by Leeds United. The Premier League club decided not to offer Mason a scholarship after he spent 10 years with the West Yorkshire club.
From the minute he joined the club there were murmurings about his talent and the undoubted potential he possesses. His talent was evident for all those who watched the reserves play, this talent led to a place on the bench against Boston United in the Lincolnshire County Cup. Unfortunately, Mason was an unused substitute that night.
It wasn't until there was a change in management at first team level that the youngster got chance to show what he was capable of at Step 4. When you are given a chance it is vital that you take it and boy has Mason done that and then some.
He has impressed from the bench and even more so in training, as Tom eluded to in his interview after the draw at Ashington. The impressive cameos and attitude in training led to a deserved start in the 0-0 draw at Ashington, not only did Mason justify his selection and the faith of the new gaffer, he deservedly took home the Man of the Match award.
If you visit our social media pages you can see an interview with Mason and hearing him talk certainly underlines his ambition and shows he has the right attitude to establish himself as a first team regualr for some years to come.
Keep up the good work Mason you are a credit to your family, the club and also an inspiration to all those 7-16 year olds that are currently plying their trade in a Grimsby Borough junior side and are hoping to tread the pathway that this club now provides.
