Borough Appoint Ricky Ravenhill As New First-Team Manager
Grimsby Borough are delighted to announce the appointment of Ricky Ravenhill as the Wilderness Boys’ new First-Team Manager.
The 45-year-old joins the club following a short stint in charge of fellow Northern Premier League Division One East outfit Matlock Town between March and August, and brings with him a vast amount of experience from his playing days in the EFL with the likes of Grimsby Town, Doncaster Rovers, Notts County, and Bradford City, among many others.
A part of the Bantams squad that memorably reached the 2013 EFL Cup final against Swansea City at Wembley Stadium, the all-action midfielder began his career in the Barnsley youth system, before going on to make nearly 500 senior appearances across multiple levels, winning three Football League promotions along the way.
Following his retirement from playing professionally in 2015, Ricky has held a coaching role within the Doncaster Rovers Youth Academy, alongside success in the Assistant Manager position at both Buxton and Mickleover, helping guide both clubs and the aforementioned Matlock to a play-off place in each of the previous three seasons at their respective levels.
A well-known footballing name within the region, Ravenhill, whose backroom team will be announced in due course, has developed superb tactical acumen and leadership skills in that time, which will benefit the football club greatly.
Ricky’s credentials and accomplishments in the game speak for themselves. We're excited to welcome him to the Technica Home of Grimsby Borough, and look forward to a successful future moving forward.
Grimsby Borough Chairman, Jason Flint:-
"We're delighted to welcome Ricky Ravenhill to Grimsby Borough as our new First-Team Manager.
The club entered a competitive application process, with myself, our Vice Chairman (Kev Gittens) and our Director of Football (Dave Smith) keen to see the profile of Management available and who could take the club forward.
We wanted someone with strong leadership qualities, a real understanding of the game, high standards and, importantly, someone who understood what we are trying to build at Grimsby Borough.
Ricky impressed us enormously.
His experience and achievements within the professional game speak for themselves, but it was his approach, mentality and ambition during the interview process that really stood out to us. He understands the opportunity we have at this Football Club and shares our determination to keep moving it forward.
Ricky also knows the local football landscape extremely well, and I believe his experience, contacts and knowledge of the game will be hugely valuable to us both on and off the pitch.
There is a lot of hard work ahead, and we know where we want this Football Club to go. I’m really looking forward to working alongside Ricky and his backroom staff (soon to be announced), as we continue our NPL journey.
Welcome to Borough, Ricky."
